Class: Osteichthyes -->We are focusing on this class in our project.
- Organisms within the Class Osteichthyes have certain key features/characteristics that make them distinguishable from other Classes
- Key Features for Class Osteichthyes include:
- bony structure in fish, which is reinforced with calcium salts (allows for their buoyancy, ex. swim bladder for floating)
- numerous vertebrae or spinal bone structure
- mucous glands present within the skin, sometimes with dermal scales and some without scales at all
- paired fins, some with mouths full of teeth (some without), with jaws
- also known as “bony fish"
